Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s video has been coming for a few weeks now, since I started playing Breath of the Wild on the weekends! I’ve been taking the weekends off just to play video games and relax a bit; it’s the main reason why I don’t really post on Saturdays and Sundays.

This fan art was something that I’ve been wanting to do for some time now, I just never made the time for it! I wanted to do it in markers because I love how bright the colors can be on paper. I love the game’s painterly aesthetic and I wanted to draw Link in the hood I use the most in the game (aside from the Climbing, Sheikah and Zora outfits).

I talk about making fan art as a way to try new art techniques and concepts. I’m no stranger to making fan works, though I don’t really share most of it because of the negative connotations it can have. It’s lessened over the years, that’s for sure. I think it’s good to create fan stuff in between working original content because it’s a way to appreciate the source content. Let me know what you think!

I also have a special video for this week so stay tuned! Let’s hope I can edit that beast of a video on time!

I’ll be practicing with my Gansai Tambi on a small piece, just to get back into the swing of traditional illustration streams. I missed them quite a bit, so join me in some watercolor fun! I’ll be streaming again tomorrow to make up for Tuesday, so don’t miss out!

Art Process & Motivation

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s illustration was product of several art attempts before I settled on this one.  I go into more details in the video, but I went through at least 3 ideas, both in traditional and digital media, before I decided to break out my acrylic paints and give them a try after months of struggling with oil paints.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the buttery consistency and loooong open time of water-soluble oils, but setting up for a oil painting session takes quite a bit of prep work that I wasn’t planning on doing if I wanted to make my weekly deadline! I found myself enjoying acrylic paints for the first time in months, so I hope I’ll be doing more to balance out my content!

I’m still trying to figure out a good content management & schedule strategy so I can have more leeway for more experimental illustrations, Patreon and blogposts.

Art Process & Talk

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! Oh my God, 30 episodes this year!? Wow! Thank you so much for everyone who has watched, liked and read this weekly series of mine! It has been a wonderful challenge to create and keep up and I hope to continue going! I broke out of my routine and illustrated a male portrait instead!

This episode was more of a chance to talk to you all about how I take care of myself when I’m close to burning out. As a freelance artist, it’s important to create content like webcomic pages and videos, and promote it continuously along with building up commissions and shopkeeping. All these projects began to overwhelm me so I took a step back and reevaluated each one. I took stock of not just the positive impact of each one, but the tasks and workload they brought on.

I go over it during the video, but I made some changes to my content to avoid burning out. One good way I gauge if I’m burning out is by checking my weekly tasks on my Bullet Journal: if I see the same tasks transfer over a few week I will either finish them or check why they’re not done. I’m also trying to get into the habit of making a reset day that is just for relaxing and reseting myself (that doesn’t necessarily involve video games).

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you all for tonight’s Art Stream!
