Timelapse Tuesday 36: Clip Studio Paint Manga + September News!

Hi everyone and welcome back to another Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s video comes with September news and changes! I wanted to dust off some of the rust from not inking much last week due to working on other projects.

I go into details in the video but the next few months are going to be busy and hectic to meet deadlines and get some special projects underway. I go into details in a later Patreon-only post so be sure to check my page out for more content!

To make sure I plan my time and get them done, I won’t be updating Timelapse Tuesdays for the month of September. In exchange, I will be streaming on Wednesdays and uploading them on Tuesdays!

Let me know what you think in the comments! I’ll see you all soon for the Twitch Streams!

Twitch Art Stream is ONLINE (August 24, 2017)

It’s time for the Twitch Art Stream! Click HERE or on the image to come on by!

I’ll be practicing with my Gansai Tambi on a small piece, just to get back into the swing of traditional illustration streams. I missed them quite a bit, so join me in some watercolor fun! I’ll be streaming again tomorrow to make up for Tuesday, so don’t miss out!

Comic Update: Chapter 2 Release date!

I am happy to announce Chapter 2’s release date! Click on the image or HERE to check out the full Patreon post with details on what’s up with this chapter after the, what, 3-week break I allotted to myself before I got antsy and started working on this webcomic again.

I’ll be posting exclusive production notes during the course of the next 3 months as I work to my Patreon Supporters and Early Access to the pages! The webcomic will remain free for everyone! It will be released simultaneously on all my web platforms every Friday at 5pm on November 10!

Thank you so much for reading and your support throughout the years! I’ll see you all next time!

Side note: I’m over the moon with how lovely Lita looks in this cover! I mean the whole cover is looking great, but I had to redraw her face a few times before getting it right!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This video was a beast to make and edit, but I’m very happy how it turned out! Outside of cel-shade work, I’m not always happy with my digital painting skills but I do enjoying Clip Studio Paint’s pen tools. I’ve been thinking of transferring Chapter 1’s lines to watercolor paper but I want to give the process a try first with a new illustration before jumping in! Odd I know, but I think it was a success!

This is a scene I want to work in for Chapter 2 of Nightmare’s Tragedies, since it deals with the precursor conflicts before the storyline and, in a way sets up the comic’s plot in motion. I’ll talk more about it on Friday’s Comic Update, so stay tuned if you want more lore!

See you all soon for tonight’s Art Stream!

Comic Update Extra 1.1!

Hi everyone, it’s Comic Update day! Check it out on Tapastic & Smackjeeves!!

This week’s page is the first of the Extra Pages, the perfect chance to talk about the characters and settings featured in this Chapter! I started with Daikonran because he’s the first protagonist you meet (this comic has 6 main protagonists). His design’s pretty simple since he was just released from his seal and he chose not to wear his uniform to what he knows is permanent imprisonment.

His facial scars are gauges for his Necromancer abilities; meaning he’s high ranking but not nearly as high as his father. He’ll gain more scars as he picks up more spells and training. His bandages conceal the full seal with the Royal Crest and Binding Runes (the symbol & the Snake). So long as Daikonran is bound he can’t use spells but in Secondet’s presence, he’s able to access any Level I casts he might know.

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you all next week!

Color Palette Challenge: Fateful Threads

I have art commission slots available for this type of art! They’re limited so get one while you can!

Art Process

Hi everyone, welcome back to the Color Challenge! Today’s video was a quick exercise in actually using the colors in SutherlandArt’s Color Palette Challenge exclusively. I think it went rather well and I got to work out Lita’s main ability before drawing it in the comic. I really liked the #12 palette for this character because I could render her features without needing to add extra colors. Lita is actually one of my oldest OCs from way back when and I’ve kept her designs pretty much intact throughout the years.

Funny thing is, I’m starting to run out of characters for this illustration series for the time being! Most of the other characters head straight into spoiler territory, so I’m quite hesitant in drawing them before they’re properly introduced. I’ll probably end up drawing them just to work out their designs and the like (who doesn’t want an excuse to build their world?).

I’ll see you all in a bit for tonight’s Art Stream!

Timelapse Tuesday #27: “Start of the Quest” (webcomic timelapse)

I have very limited art commission slots in this style!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s video is a complete process video from sketch to final toning of my webcomic’s chapter I finale (Tapastic & Smackjeeves). As much as I like Clip Studio Paint’s Perspective Ruler, I feel more comfortable drawing in perspective traditionally. Sometimes the digital lines are a little too straight and I wanted this page to feel lively. I sketched everything with my copy-not draft blue leads and inked with the Pentel DuoPoint Flex pen for variety of line widths.

I imported the scan at 600dpi and edited the contrasts so it would work well as a “Multiply” Lineart layer. I then added and painted the values in different tones by layering them. I spread the whole process (and recording it) across two days so I could enjoy this piece more since it would the last piece before taking my webcomic break.

See you all soon for tonight’s art stream!
