Timelapse Tuesday #30: Consuming Feelings + Art Talk

Check out my Patreon for more content related to this illustration!

Art Process & Talk

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! Oh my God, 30 episodes this year!? Wow! Thank you so much for everyone who has watched, liked and read this weekly series of mine! It has been a wonderful challenge to create and keep up and I hope to continue going! I broke out of my routine and illustrated a male portrait instead!

This episode was more of a chance to talk to you all about how I take care of myself when I’m close to burning out. As a freelance artist, it’s important to create content like webcomic pages and videos, and promote it continuously along with building up commissions and shopkeeping. All these projects began to overwhelm me so I took a step back and reevaluated each one. I took stock of not just the positive impact of each one, but the tasks and workload they brought on.

I go over it during the video, but I made some changes to my content to avoid burning out. One good way I gauge if I’m burning out is by checking my weekly tasks on my Bullet Journal: if I see the same tasks transfer over a few week I will either finish them or check why they’re not done. I’m also trying to get into the habit of making a reset day that is just for relaxing and reseting myself (that doesn’t necessarily involve video games).

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you all for tonight’s Art Stream!

Timelapse Tuesday #28: Starry Bouquet

Check out my Patreon for early access to all my content and exclusive content like lineart, full illustrations and longer videos!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This is the first week with my brand new Patreon campaign so on the recording and editing side, this was a doozy of an episode! I wanted to try out the Fluid Watercolor Paper I picked up a few weeks back but commissions and preparing for the Patreon launch threw me off for a bit!

Today’s video was mainly for laying as many watercolor techniques as I could on the paper to test it out before making full illustrations to offer to patrons and the shop. I’m also trying out my new Winsor & Newton Cotman paints along with my studio palette for a complete piece. I tried them before on my Twitch Streams on mixed media paper so it was awesome to see them work on stronger paper!

I would recommend this paper to anyone who would want a smooth finish without breaking the bank!

Materials

  • MIR Paints Watercolor set
  • Winsor & Newton Cotman in Dioxazine Violet and Prussian blue
  • Daniel Smith Watercolor in Cobalt Teal
  • Van Gogh Watercolor in Quinachridone Rose
  • Fluid Watercolor Hot Press Paper
  • Prismacolor Colerase Pencil
  • Unibal Signo Pen in White

I’m on Patreon!

Hi everyone! Today’s post is a special one: I made a Patreon page!

Feel free to check it out here: Delicate Sketches Patreon

I’ve been working on this launch for quite a while and I’m super happy I did it! Thanks to your support throughout the years, I’ve gained the confidence to make this move! I animated everything in Clip Studio Paint/Manga Studio 5 & iMovie. I wanted to make this video special and this was the main reason I was taking so long to start my page! I haven’t animated anything in 4 years but I wanted to challenge myself to do it!

Being a Freelance Artist has been an incredible experience! But I’m still building a commission/buyers clientele and ad revenue is building slowly, so it’s been a struggle that I normally don’t talk or share with many people.

By creating this Patreon Campaign, I want to give back to my community and fans with more access to my process and supplement my income in a fun way!

Rest assured, most of my content like my webcomics, main YouTube series and Twitch Streams will remain free for everyone! I will have some exclusive content to my lovely Patrons with early access.

If you can’t contribute to my Patreon page (it’s okay!): please reblog, regram and share with your friends or check the links down below!

Extra Support

If you want to donate instead, I have a Ko-fi page as well, where you can donate “coffee”, rather the equivalent of 1 espresso!

I’m always open for commissions as well!

See you all tomorrow for the new Timelapse Tuesday! Remember, Patrons get to see it before anyone else!

Timelapse Tuesday #27: “Start of the Quest” (webcomic timelapse)

I have very limited art commission slots in this style!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s video is a complete process video from sketch to final toning of my webcomic’s chapter I finale (Tapastic & Smackjeeves). As much as I like Clip Studio Paint’s Perspective Ruler, I feel more comfortable drawing in perspective traditionally. Sometimes the digital lines are a little too straight and I wanted this page to feel lively. I sketched everything with my copy-not draft blue leads and inked with the Pentel DuoPoint Flex pen for variety of line widths.

I imported the scan at 600dpi and edited the contrasts so it would work well as a “Multiply” Lineart layer. I then added and painted the values in different tones by layering them. I spread the whole process (and recording it) across two days so I could enjoy this piece more since it would the last piece before taking my webcomic break.

See you all soon for tonight’s art stream!

Color Palette Challenge: Soft Blue Eyes

I have art commission slots available for this type of art! They’re super limited so get one while you can!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Color Challenge! This week is the first one where I focus on using a limited palette rather than an arbitrary number of colors. I’ll pick that concept up in a later time, right now I want to play with colors and make more color sketches and illustrations of my webcomic. I picked Aurora this week since I hadn’t drawn her first design in quite some time. It’ll be quite some time before her second and third designs come into play so I can’t go too deep into spoiler territory for comic readers!

I used SutherlandArt’s Color Palette Challenge this week since it’s an overall pretty but mellow palette collection. I wanted to practice my digital art rendering and I happened to find SeaofDiamonds’ gorgeous modeling and I did my best integrate it to my own art style in Clip Studio Paint/Manga Studio 5. I’m happy with the features and tighter brush work from my last painting exercise!

I’ll see you all in a few for tonight’s Twitch Stream!

Timelapse Tuesday #25: Say it with flowers

Original is up for Sale! Click HERE for the shop link! I also have art commission slots available in this art style!

Art Process & Motivation

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s illustration was a chance to work with my art markers again after not recording a complete YouTube video on them in quite some time! I wanted to be playful and illustrate the phrase “Say it with Flowers” with even more blooms!

I talk about keeping art fun and changing things up from a more serious process to something that is still challenging. I chose to go with a more graphic or comic style because I like high contrasts in my marker art. I took a quick break from watercolors so I wouldn’t worry too much on the layering and focus on the selection of colors. I wanted to render everything softly so I used my pastel markers as tonal values and only added the brighter colors as midtowns as needed. Overall I’m very happy with this simple illustration and I hope to make more soon!

I also wanted to add some gold ink details to make it extra nice and plan for a metallic print in the near future. I’ve been on a gold ink kick since last Thursday’s Twitch Stream when I added warm gold ink on my newest Twitch illustration.
