Timelapse Tuesday 36: Clip Studio Paint Manga + September News!

Hi everyone and welcome back to another Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s video comes with September news and changes! I wanted to dust off some of the rust from not inking much last week due to working on other projects.

I go into details in the video but the next few months are going to be busy and hectic to meet deadlines and get some special projects underway. I go into details in a later Patreon-only post so be sure to check my page out for more content!

To make sure I plan my time and get them done, I won’t be updating Timelapse Tuesdays for the month of September. In exchange, I will be streaming on Wednesdays and uploading them on Tuesdays!

Let me know what you think in the comments! I’ll see you all soon for the Twitch Streams!

Comic Update: Chapter 2 Release date!

I am happy to announce Chapter 2’s release date! Click on the image or HERE to check out the full Patreon post with details on what’s up with this chapter after the, what, 3-week break I allotted to myself before I got antsy and started working on this webcomic again.

I’ll be posting exclusive production notes during the course of the next 3 months as I work to my Patreon Supporters and Early Access to the pages! The webcomic will remain free for everyone! It will be released simultaneously on all my web platforms every Friday at 5pm on November 10!

Thank you so much for reading and your support throughout the years! I’ll see you all next time!

Side note: I’m over the moon with how lovely Lita looks in this cover! I mean the whole cover is looking great, but I had to redraw her face a few times before getting it right!

Art Process & Update

Hi everyone! Today’s blogpost is a bit of a hodpodge of several topics so let’s get to it! I must confess I took yesterday off from YouTube and blogging to paint for myself and build more stock for my Pet Portraits Collection and opened up a Special Art Commissions page for them! It was nice to just focus on making art and not worry about editing videos or comic pages.

I apologize for not updating on the Twitch Stream yesterday as well, it’s still going at 7:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It was reinvigorating to talk with people and draw the nights away.

I’ll be taking the month-long semi-break from the webcomic (that I never took haha) and taking some time to restructure YouTube content so it’s not so exhausting. I’ll keep on blogging and updating you all, I’ll just be a little more casual about it rather than being so rigid about the content!

As always, thank you so much for reading!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This video was a beast to make and edit, but I’m very happy how it turned out! Outside of cel-shade work, I’m not always happy with my digital painting skills but I do enjoying Clip Studio Paint’s pen tools. I’ve been thinking of transferring Chapter 1’s lines to watercolor paper but I want to give the process a try first with a new illustration before jumping in! Odd I know, but I think it was a success!

This is a scene I want to work in for Chapter 2 of Nightmare’s Tragedies, since it deals with the precursor conflicts before the storyline and, in a way sets up the comic’s plot in motion. I’ll talk more about it on Friday’s Comic Update, so stay tuned if you want more lore!

See you all soon for tonight’s Art Stream!

Comic Update Extra 1.2!

Hi everyone! It’s Comic Update day over at Tapas & Smackjeeves!
This is the first Webcomic Update featured on Patreon! This week’s Extra Page is about the orphaned Angel-Born Secondet Lainhart. Like it says on the page, Secondet is androgynous, so I refer to them as “they” most of the time though they are codified as male.
Their story is intrinsically linked with Daikonran’s, even before the angel was born. The Falsebound Angels are a group of angels that fought alongside Lady Lita in the Gryphen-Lyek Conflict. There were 5 angels, representing the different elements that balance all 3 realms. The reasons as to why they chose to get involved were mainly centered around preventing the conflict to reach Earth (thus aggravating an already tenuous relationship between all 3).
Secondet is the child of the Healer Baltha and a human enchantress from Emmoni named Beatrice. Like stated in the comic, Baltha and Beatrice were killed in their home and Secondet was found among the bloodshed. Seccie has always doubted the story given by Tellus, but the records corroborated it. As to Secondet’s past lover, not much is really known about them other that he put them back in a boat back to Tellus’ brothel and broke the angel’s heart.
For now, Secondet’s mere presence helps unlock Level 1 spells for Daikonran and part of their journey is teaching the angel how to improve this.
That’s enough lore for this week! See you all next post!

Comic Update Extra 1.1!

Hi everyone, it’s Comic Update day! Check it out on Tapastic & Smackjeeves!!

This week’s page is the first of the Extra Pages, the perfect chance to talk about the characters and settings featured in this Chapter! I started with Daikonran because he’s the first protagonist you meet (this comic has 6 main protagonists). His design’s pretty simple since he was just released from his seal and he chose not to wear his uniform to what he knows is permanent imprisonment.

His facial scars are gauges for his Necromancer abilities; meaning he’s high ranking but not nearly as high as his father. He’ll gain more scars as he picks up more spells and training. His bandages conceal the full seal with the Royal Crest and Binding Runes (the symbol & the Snake). So long as Daikonran is bound he can’t use spells but in Secondet’s presence, he’s able to access any Level I casts he might know.

Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you all next week!

Color Palette Challenge: Fateful Threads

I have art commission slots available for this type of art! They’re limited so get one while you can!

Art Process

Hi everyone, welcome back to the Color Challenge! Today’s video was a quick exercise in actually using the colors in SutherlandArt’s Color Palette Challenge exclusively. I think it went rather well and I got to work out Lita’s main ability before drawing it in the comic. I really liked the #12 palette for this character because I could render her features without needing to add extra colors. Lita is actually one of my oldest OCs from way back when and I’ve kept her designs pretty much intact throughout the years.

Funny thing is, I’m starting to run out of characters for this illustration series for the time being! Most of the other characters head straight into spoiler territory, so I’m quite hesitant in drawing them before they’re properly introduced. I’ll probably end up drawing them just to work out their designs and the like (who doesn’t want an excuse to build their world?).

I’ll see you all in a bit for tonight’s Art Stream!

Timelapse Tuesday #27: “Start of the Quest” (webcomic timelapse)

I have very limited art commission slots in this style!

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome back to Timelapse Tuesday! This week’s video is a complete process video from sketch to final toning of my webcomic’s chapter I finale (Tapastic & Smackjeeves). As much as I like Clip Studio Paint’s Perspective Ruler, I feel more comfortable drawing in perspective traditionally. Sometimes the digital lines are a little too straight and I wanted this page to feel lively. I sketched everything with my copy-not draft blue leads and inked with the Pentel DuoPoint Flex pen for variety of line widths.

I imported the scan at 600dpi and edited the contrasts so it would work well as a “Multiply” Lineart layer. I then added and painted the values in different tones by layering them. I spread the whole process (and recording it) across two days so I could enjoy this piece more since it would the last piece before taking my webcomic break.

See you all soon for tonight’s art stream!

Comic Update 1.1.46 (End of Chapter 1)!!

Hi everyone it’s Comic Update day! Check it out on Tapastic & Smackjeeves! This week’s challenge was creating an awesome last page for this very first Chapter using traditional inks and Clip Studio Paint! I’m elated to say Chapter I of “Nightmare’s Tragedies” is DONE! Almost a full year of drawing pages non-stop have come to a…not a close, but a quick break!

Like I said before, I will be taking at least a month off from drawing pages to get ready to work on Chapter II: “Arrival of Dreamless Nights”. The character designs are pretty much done, the script is getting a bit of an edit and I’m gathering as much reference material & practice as I can to make Chapter 2 as pretty as I envision it.

Stay tuned for the next couple of weeks: I’ll be sharing concept sketches, world building, literary analysis (I get to use my degree!), and more of Chapter I!

This past year was a learning experience in freelancing as an illustrator and as a webcomic artist. Not going to sugar coat it, it’s been incredibly difficult to start from the ground up. There were some days when I just didn’t see the point in continuing this comic because it was/is so time consuming. It felt like I was shouting into the nothing and pouring my energy into something “unproductive”. It’s thanks to your feedback, your kind words, reading and liking the pages, that I pulled myself out of that mentality and got motivated to keep going.

I have a big personal endeavor in the works for the end of July, so keep a look out! In the meantime, check out the next episode of Timelapse Tuesday! I recorded the entire process for this page from sketch to final touches and I’m super proud of it!

Thank you so much and I’ll see you all next week!
