Timelapse Tuesday #11: Warrior Mermaid

Art Process

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s Timelapse Tuesday! This time around I tried to go into a darker and moodier sketch of a warrior mermaid queen. I integrated fish skeleton and deep sea fish imagery to make her look menacing without losing her regality.

This week’s video is actually the precursor to the “Color Challenge” videos since I was actively avoiding using more than 1 or 2 colors and focusing on line and tonal values. I wasn’t too happy with this drawing at first since I was struggling to come up with art post ideas at the time. I still do some days and it’s not the greatest feeling in the world. I talked a little bit about it on my last Art Motivation “Lily” blogpost and sometimes I don’t like my work because it seems similar, wither visually or thematically, to someone else’s work.

Being aware of  this problem is both helpful and frustrating since it makes me think of ways to add my own touch, be it by adding my favorite elements or use other colors. It’s still good practice and the important thing about Art-making is to create as often as you can and practice.

See you on Thursday!
